From Activision to Azeroth
Kai, Game Master & WoTLKClassic Founder
Back in 2007, I was working at Activision on some of the biggest games of that era. My days were spent testing and writing bug patches for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Spider-Man 3 for PSP, Tony Hawk's Proving Ground, and Guitar Hero 3. It was an incredible time in gaming history.
But what I remember most wasn't the AAA titles on my deskโit was what happened during every break. I'd look toward the back of our office and see rows of PCs, all running World of Warcraft. Whenever anyone had a moment to breathe, they were logging into Azeroth, exploring dungeons, raiding with their guilds.
At the time, I wasn't much of a WoW player. But watching my colleaguesโthese talented developers and testersโlose themselves in this virtual world during every spare moment, I knew there was something special happening. That's when I decided to give it a try.
WoW didn't just become a game for meโit ignited my passion for MMORPGs and that classic grind gameplay that defined an era. The sense of progression, the meaningful choices, the communities that formed around shared challenges... they just don't make them like they used to.
